Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy: The Franchise’s Original Creator Demands His Name Be Credited!

Chris Darril wants to remain tied to the franchise, even as the new entry was only announced this week.

Chris Darril, the original creator of Remothered, has finally broken his silence in a letter posted on LinkedIn. Fans asked whether he had any involvement in the newly announced Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy. Darril was a co-founder of Stormind Games and worked there as a writer and game director until August 2021, but he has since moved on and founded another independent studio, Little Sewing Machine, which released Bye Sweet Carole, a narrative adventure game, a few months ago.

Darril confirmed he had no role whatsoever in developing Red Nun’s Legacy and said he wasn’t even aware the game existed until recently. While he wished Stormind and the project well, he sharply criticized the absence of any acknowledgment of his work as the original IP creator in the new game’s reveal materials, and he went as far as to signal legal action to address the omission.

“As you may know, Remothered is more than just a ‘common’ game to me. It’s a piece of my heart – a project that began when I was 17 (almost 20 years ago), an IP I nurtured from the very first sketches – from the Red Nun and Rosemary Reed, to the settings and the lore, all the way to the international success of Remothered: Tormented Fathers. I recently learned about a third installment meant to close the original trilogy – titled Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy. I want to officially confirm that I am not involved in this production. This was a difficult decision I made back in 2020 during the development of the second chapter, at a time when I was unfortunately left with no other viable options. It allowed me to dedicate myself again to new projects where I could express myself freely and truly, including the recent Bye Sweet Carole. Still, like a parent watching their child find their own path, even though we have taken different directions, I sincerely wish the best for this game, the franchise, and the team behind it.

However, there is a critical issue I must address: while there is a lot of talk about honoring the Red Nun’s legacy, it seems the actual creator of that legacy has been forgotten. To date, my role as author and IP creator has been entirely omitted from the reveal trailer, the credits, and the official press release – contrary to what was agreed. This deliberate erasure of my name is not only a disregard for authorship and creative ownership; it feels like an attempt to distance the current production from the technical shortcomings of Remothered: Broken Porcelain by implicitly shifting responsibility elsewhere – especially given the lack of transparency surrounding the announcement of this new chapter. For this reason, I have instructed my legal team to take the necessary steps.”

Hopefully, Chris Darril and Stormind can reach an agreement quickly – ideally before the game’s release later this year.
