Exodus: The Gameplay Is Distinctly Mass Effect-Style! [VIDEO]

Archetype Entertainment, comprised of former BioWare employees, has demonstrated that the studio is truly carrying on the legacy of the past.

The video below showcases three scenes. In the first scene, the protagonist Jun joins his companions Tom and Elise in a live combat scene on the outskirts of Lyonesse. The developers emphasized that positioning is crucial in this kind of combat, and relying on teammates can be a matter of life and death. The second scene shows the team climbing a space tower in Lyonesse. Here, the pace slows slightly to show what a mission might look like between battles. According to Archetype, movement in Exodus has its own rhythm.

Players can move quickly, but it’s worth stopping to take in the surroundings. We also meet the Railclaw here, a grappling hook that allows us to reach better vantage points and traverse hostile terrain more quickly. According to the press release, it is a central element of the Traveler’s toolkit, so hopefully Jun can unlock it soon in the game. In the final clip, Jun and the group enter an ancient sanctuary in Khonsun. Soaring Celestial-style architecture rises above their heads, hinting at an important part of the mission.

From now until early summer, the development team will release additional short gameplay videos showcasing combat, movement, interactions, and the environment. This summer, the development team will host a longer gameplay showcase featuring continuous footage, including combat, dialogue, in-mission decisions, and more. As the release date approaches, they will focus on companions and romantic relationships, the RPG hub of Persepolis, decisions and their consequences, role-playing mechanics, and the key time-dilation mechanic.

Hasbro has high hopes for this new intellectual property, and CEO Chris Cocks is particularly optimistic about the game. However, another sci-fi RPG, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn from Owlcat, is following a similar path.
