Resident Evil Requiem: Leon’s Already Taken!

Who could Leon S. Kennedy have chosen as his partner?

Resident Evil Requiem may be a great game, but it brought some terrible news for Leon S. Kennedy fans. In several scenes, something that looks like a wedding ring can be seen on his finger, and the unlockable concept art makes it clear: everyone’s favorite horror heartthrob is married. Given how heavily he flirted with Ada across multiple games, it is reasonable to assume he is heterosexual, which leaves fan theories split into two main camps. Either Ada Wong is his wife, or Claire Redfield, who appeared alongside him in Resident Evil 2, got there first.

Of course, it could also be some random civilian we have never met, but Ada and Claire feel like the most obvious options. While most people would have been happy to leave it there, Eurogamer was not. The site asked Capcom to clarify who slipped the ring onto Leon’s finger. Surprisingly, it was Resident Evil Requiem director Koshi Nakanishi who stepped in, not to provide a direct answer, but to launch a little romantic smokescreen of his own. Maybe it simply means Leon found the right woman and settled down. And while this was never really in doubt, Nakanishi also confirmed that Requiem’s “good” ending is the canon one. We will stay away from open spoilers here, but Requiem has two endings, and they send Leon in very different directions.

“The answer will become clear someday, but not just yet. What we wanted to convey in the final scene is simple: Leon now has a ‘place to go home to,’ and we hope you can imagine the peaceful moments he spends there. Leon is a man who says little about what truly matters, yet he would sacrifice himself without hesitation to save the life right in front of him. So what does his ring signify? Resolve? Or a vow? He may never voice the answer himself. But for now, after a long battle, he has a ‘place to go home to.’ Isn’t that enough?”, Nakanishi said.

Perhaps we will get clearer answers in the upcoming story DLC, although it seems it may still be a while before that arrives. Most likely, the Mercenaries mode will show up first.
