Can Rebellion Developments’ action-horror title rise to the level set by Alien: Isolation? Alien Deathstorm promises a raw and intense first-person survival experience on a remote colony where both alien creatures and a planet-ravaging storm are determined to tear everything apart.
Alien Deathstorm is a brand-new, raw, visceral first-person action-horror game set on a remote off-world colony being torn apart by a cataclysmic storm and hostile alien creatures. Players take on the role of the Combat Engineer, a highly trained first responder sent to an extraterrestrial settlement after all communications have been lost. Arriving days, or possibly even weeks, before a full rescue fleet can reach the location, your task is to find out what silenced the colony while trying to save as many lives as possible.
By the time you land, the Deathstorm is already ripping the colony to pieces. You must survive the ongoing destruction under apocalyptic conditions while facing the threat of unknown alien horrors. You knew the situation would be bad, but it is far worse than expected, and it is deteriorating fast. What first looked like a rescue mission has now become a desperate fight for survival.
According to Rebellion design director Ben Fisher, the team drew inspiration from the more analog side of 1980s science fiction, from an era where mechanical keyboards felt more natural than touchscreens. “We’ve been inspired by the slightly more analog world of 1980s sci-fi, with its mechanical keyboards more than touchscreens. We think it has given our colony a chunky, lived-in aesthetic with a genuinely unique feel. We’ve taken influences from Lovecraftian eldritch horror and 1980s VHS sci-fi, so we think people will be intrigued by what we’ve built. If we had to describe it, we’d call it an ‘action horror’ game with a layer of constant threat and environmental discovery that fully supports the second-to-second ballistic action”, Fisher explained.
He also believes that combining survival horror with shooter mechanics still feels like relatively uncharted territory, which is exactly why the team hopes Alien Deathstorm will stand out from the crowd. For now, we can only say that we will see soon enough. Rebellion Developments plans to release the game sometime in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. It will also launch straight into Xbox Game Pass.
