Leaked: Early Version of Deus Ex: The Fall Surfaces! [VIDEO]

Quite an interesting timing, but here’s how it happened: early versions of two older games have hit the internet (and the other one, an older episode of Call of Duty, was already reported in today’s news).

Deus Ex is considered one of Square Enix’s oldest franchises, with the first installment having been released back in 2000. Since then, there have been several sequels. One of those was Deus Ex: The Fall, but that was more of a mobile game, as the title, released in July 2013, was available on iOS and Android alongside PC (Steam), and you can currently play the episode via the GeForce Now streaming service.

Its prototype was called Deus Ex: Icarus Rising. Although you can see from the footage below that a lot of things were kept, some things (like the maps) were either reworked or cut out one by one. There were plans to include an Australian and a New York level in this episode of Deus Ex, but they didn’t make it into the “store” version. In any case, it’s safe to say that the world created in Deus Ex: Human Revolution was fantastic, and if they could have properly transplanted the stealth, dialogue, computers, PDAs to mobile, the game could have been a blast!

In the video embedded below (which we have archived once again, so there is a download link), you will notice that the main character is Adam Jensen. Well, the main character of Deus Ex: Human Revolution is only in this post as a temporary placeholder character, so he wasn’t the protagonist later on, but another character named Ben, and presumably his model wasn’t ready for that.

It’s common that during development a lot of things end up being left out (things vary from genre to genre: in car games, for example, tracks and cars…), so this is not new. Anyway, it’s nice to see the prototype.
