The test benchmarks for the PlayStation 5’s half-generation update have leaked, and if we were to judge it by that alone, we’d probably say that Sony has put together some beefy hardware…
A developer who wishes to remain anonymous has sent Moore’s Law Is Dead early test footage of his game running on the base PlayStation 5 (it doesn’t matter if you’re looking at the original 2020 or the redesigned model) and the PlayStation 5 Pro. The anonymous person has been contacted before in leaks about the console, so is considered a credible source. According to the footage, the game on the base PlayStation 5 ranges from 1080p to 1600p with dynamic resolution, and medium to high settings were used, with frame rates ranging from 45-60 FPS.
On the PlayStation 5 Pro, the same game uses a higher dynamic resolution, ranging from 1600p to 2160p, without using the AI-based upscaler PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), with graphics settings cranked to the max and a consistent frame rate of 60 fps. For this reason, the developer is also considering 4K resolution and support for 120 Hz modes, but has also released more information about the PlayStation 5 Pro…
The console also offers the possibility of 8K resolution, but this has only been confirmed for one game so far (Gran Turismo 7). To improve memory efficiency, developers can use an additional 1.2GB of RAM. Sony’s documentation also mentions that bandwidth has also increased by 28%, and the higher CPU frequency mode increases processor performance by 10%, but sacrifices <1.5% of GPU performance, giving developers even more options. PSSR has already been updated to version 9.4, and with a 250 MB RAM requirement, the graphics have been significantly improved over 9.0.
The PlayStation 5 Pro will be available from November 7th. In Europe, Sony’s pen is very thick, with a price tag of 800 €, and that doesn’t include the vertical stand or the Blu-ray drive…
