Ubisoft: Bad News for Assassin’s Creed Shadows; SW Outlaws’ Release Confirmed for Steam!

Ubisoft has acknowledged the failure of Star Wars Outlaws and wants to give more time to polish the game experience in the game considered the most ambitious part of the Assassin’s Creed series…

Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been in turmoil in recent days. After cancelling the Tokyo Games Show 2024 event, which caused serious concern among fans, Ubisoft has now confirmed the bad news. The new part of the series is delayed. Instead of being released in mid-November, it will arrive in early 2025. According to the developers, the new date is February 14. The company made the decision because of the “lessons learned from Star Wars Outlaws”. The extra time will be used to refine the title further.

In its new earnings report published on Yahoo Finance, Ubisoft also confirmed the news that many had anticipated: the commercial performance of Star Wars Outlaws fell short of expectations. More specifically, the company defined Kay Vess’s adventure as a “weaker than expected” start. This will have far-reaching consequences for Ubisoft and its games.

Ubisoft wants to secure its future

The release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows will probably be the most crucial step in Ubisoft’s recent history. The company’s recent games, including Star Wars Outlaws, have underperformed commercially. This situation led to a severe internal crisis; investors even demanded the departure of CEO Yves Guillemot. In this sense, the company seems more interested in the perfect appearance than meeting the deadline of not missing the Christmas campaign.

The delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has come with a change that PC users will probably be celebrating.

Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will be available on Steam from the day of release, February 14. Moreover, the appearance in the Valve store will not be a one-time event. From now on, all of the brand’s publications will arrive on the most popular PC platform, “day one.” This is a very important shift in strategy that will likely boost sales on these types of systems.

As for SW Outlaws, Ubisoft’s development teams are currently in full swing, quickly implementing a series of updates to polish and improve the gaming experience. Their goal is to have the game as perfect as possible by the Christmas season at the latest. Kay Vess’s adventure has also received a Steam release date: it will arrive on November 21.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will receive several expansions

Ubisoft took the opportunity to share more information about the game. Now we know that the company plans to release several expansions for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The first of these will be available for free if you pre-order the game. Despite the news, the company clarified that they “intend to move away from the traditional Season Pass model” in the future. Finally, they confirmed that those who pre-ordered the game before the announcement could request a refund and get their money back, no questions asked. It looks like the company is doing everything possible to win back the community’s goodwill…
