After CD Projekt Red confirmed that several Cyberpunk 2077-related projects are in the works, we didn’t expect one to be announced so soon. However, this is precisely what happened recently, when it was revealed that a new animated series is being made thanks to the collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Netflix!

Some fans are hoping that it will be a sequel to 2022’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, while others are hoping that it will be a completely new story, but that information is not yet known.

However, the news about the sequel keeps fans in a heightened mood in general.

We already know that the Studio Trigger animators behind Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will not be returning. In their place, Netflix Animations, the in-house studio of the streaming service provider, will take the reins.

Not only does this confirm that there won’t be a direct sequel to Edgerunners, but we can also expect a completely different animation style.

Either way, fans of Cyberpunk 2077 are already looking forward to the sequel to the futuristic world. Most recently, they shared their thoughts on the animated sequel on the r/scifi Reddit thread.

“I figured it’s going to be separate from Edgerunners,” wrote one user. “Consider the Cyberpunk comics from Dark Horse. Each series runs for at most four issues, and has a distinct main cast.”

Another user had some thoughts on where the story could go: “Really hoping they give us a story about the Nomads next. The first season was definitely a street kid start, I would love to see a completely separate story about a nomad group or a fallen corpo story.”

With Edgerunners being such a hit, this as-yet-untitled sequel has much to take on. However, fans are still hopeful. Well, you could say.

“Aww man, I was just finally getting over my depression from the last one,” said one fan.

We still don’t have a release date for the new Cyberpunk 2077 animated series, but there’s no denying that millions of fans will be sitting down to watch it when the time comes.
