After Sony, now Microsoft’s network has turned in the key, so Xbox users had every right to be angry.

The PlayStation Network began to fail overseas on Monday night, and with great difficulty Sony was able to fix the problems on Tuesday. The PSN was down for about eight hours, and all platforms (even PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita!) were affected. But Microsoft announced on Twitter that it was finally able to fix the problems. So the problem wasn’t just on one network, as the Redmond-based tech giant’s network was also down…

Several aspects of Xbox services were affected, with not many things working and games unavailable, as shown in the image below. Interestingly, it wasn’t just PlayStation Network and Xbox Live that were affected, as Steam was also unavailable in many parts of the world, although in Valve’s case the outage didn’t last long and usually a restart of the app would solve any problems that arose.

Regarding the PlayStation Network, you could play single-player titles that didn’t require an online login, and by definition, online games and titles that required a login were out of the picture. Unlike Xbox, “the blues” have not acknowledged the outages on social media, and the only relevant statement is a Japanese PlayStation customer support website informing users and developers that the servers are offline. Sony has not even acknowledged the cause of the outage (so we can only guess).

Compared to Sony, Microsoft has been much more transparent and open about network problems, and has been more “green” in terms of speed. So the gap between the two companies is huge, but Sony is unable to list the PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium games that are down on its website, whereas this is standard practice for Xbox Game Pass…
