An Expanded Edition of Hogwarts Legacy is Heading Our Way?

The best-selling game of 2023 from Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) is important to them, and that could be demonstrated by tangible results in 2025.

Tom Henderson reported on his own site, Insider Gaming, what he’s heard about the Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition. The project was first reported by Bloomberg editor Jason Schreier back in June, when it was called the Director’s Cut and was said to be in the works at Rocksteady (after the highly unsuccessful Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, this is no big surprise).

According to Henderson, the new version of Hogwarts Legacy will feature 10-15 hours of new content. There will be a new storyline, lots of side quests and activities, and new costumes. The Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition is expected to be released in 2025, and those who already own the base game can upgrade to this version for $20 or $30.

Avalanche Software’s game was a huge success, despite the fact that many people stayed away from the game in protest against J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter books (who had nothing to do with the development of the game). Despite the fierce competition, it was the game that achieved the highest sales in 2023, and the last time we heard a concrete figure was in January: by then, Hogwarts Legacy had reached 24 million sales, and has since surpassed 25 million sales.

So it is understandable that WBD wants even more. In September, WBD CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels said that the sequel was also a high priority for them, but that it would be several years before it was released. By then, the PlayStation 6 and next-generation Xbox could be in stores. JB Perrette, WBD’s international head of streaming and gaming, also said there’s a good chance the sequel will have live service elements.

Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition is not official yet.
