Ubisoft’s admittedly underperforming game is trying to rebuild its reputation, and not only is it changing, but so is its supervisor!
Star Wars Outlaws has also received its first developer news trailer. From now on, the team at Massive Entertainment will provide regular insights into how they are expanding the game to make it even better. The first big change is already in place: the creative director is now Drew Rechner, and Ubisoft has explained on their website how they are working to improve a game that isn’t selling well enough to satisfy their audience…
“Your feedback has already resulted in three title updates where we’ve focused on fixing some of your biggest concerns, such as bugs, reducing major friction points in some key missions, particularly around stealth, adjusting the speeder camera and collision, and more. That being said, there are three key areas where we’re looking to improve the game even more,” says Rechner.
The three key areas are combat, stealth, and control. They want to make combat deeper and more exciting to reward precision and tactics. There will be more emphasis on stealth, which has been criticized by the public since launch. Since then, the mechanics around it have been improved to make it a more refined experience. Enemies are more predictable and their patterns are easier to spot. The controls have been tweaked to make finding and using cover more reliable, and climbing and crouching more responsive.
And there’s more to come in the fourth update, which will be the biggest ever. Version 1.4 will be released on November 21st for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC, and will also be released on Steam at the same time (Ubisoft is starting to realize that the Ubisoft Store/Epic Games Store is not enough). The first story DLC, Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card, also arrives on the same day.
We’ll report as soon as we know what’s in the update.
