Matt Rhodes, BioWare’s Art Lead, has shared other things about the franchise before, so he’s no stranger to this!
We reported earlier when Rhodes shared the few images he had of the original concept for Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and that game had a pretty bumpy road to release, so it’s no coincidence that nine years passed between it and the Dragon Age: Inquisition that preceded it. Rhodes has now shared four images from the previous installment, specifically from its final DLC, Trespasser (he also previously shared some images of characters that were left out of the multiplayer mode!)
“These concept arts are from Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser DLC, with an earlier version of the story. Sten would come to arrest you for tampering with magic, but Dagna has reverse-engineered their explosives. They leave a trap for when they return, sacrificing Skyhold in the process,” Rhodes wrote on Twitter. So we would have destroyed our base (which played the same role as Normandy in the first three Mass Effect games…).
Iron Bull could have betrayed the team for the Qun, the Inquisition either disbanded or became part of the Chantry, and our protagonist lost both his hand and his power in the DLC, so Trespasser was pretty crazy. It could have been even crazier if Sten had returned. He’s a familiar teammate from the earlier Dragon Age games (and presumably would have died if BioWare hadn’t made significant changes to Trespasser’s story concept).
Stenishok’s name appears in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Codex records indicate that he survived the Antaam rebellion against him. So he would have had a bigger villainous role in Dragon Age: The Inquisition, and the fact that his death would have been accompanied by the loss of our base in the Trespasser DLC sounds beyond amazing!
We shudder to think how much Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Trespasser DLC could have been if they hadn’t changed the story.
