Deepest Fear: Trailer for the John Carpenter and James Cameron Inspired Sci-Fi Horror Game Is Here! [VIDEO]

Deepest Fear, in addition to cinema, also considered System Shock, Half-Life 2 and Metroid Prime as inspiration…

It’s not easy to collect all the references and classics – the ones that would excite anyone who grew up on the cinema and video games of the 80s and 90s. But Deepest Fear achieves precisely that: a horror and sci-fi game that confronts us with an underwater nightmare, where monsters emerge from the water and promise to make our lives hell.

The game evokes the spirit of iconic 80s action-horror films such as The Abyss, The Thing, The Fly and Total Recall. That is, the cinematic work of directors such as James Cameron, John Carpenter, David Cronenberg and Paul Verhoeven. Deepest Fear aims to stay true to the visceral horror mix of these references. And that’s not all. In terms of interactivity, “our thoughts never stray far from titles like Metroid Prime, Half-Life 2, System Shock 2 and Dead Space,” the developers said. It’s true that there are no more classics of film and video games than this, but… what exactly is Deepest Fear?

Deepest Fear is more than a horror game

After seeing the first video trailer for this sci-fi horror game (see the end of the article), which combines metroidvania level design in the context of immersive simulator classics like the legendary System Shock. This means that in addition to shooting nightmarish monsters, we will have to solve puzzles and face all kinds of situations in which “creativity and improvisation” will play a key role.

One of the most interesting technical aspects of the title was already hinted at in the trailer, and that is the real-time fluid simulation.

Thus, all the scenes where water floods the scene will look realistic and spectacular. The monsters we face will “spontaneously manifest” from any water source, so any place flooded with this liquid element can instantly become a deadly trap.

Visually, Deepest Fear is very spectacular, with a neat atmosphere and some moments that will really tickle our nerves. In the trailer from the Variable State team, we could also see various weapons and gadgets. In short, we are talking about a very interesting project, which we will undoubtedly return to in 2025, when it is released.
