The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director, Naoki Hamaguchi, highlighted that “significant improvements have been made to lighting processes and character renderings.” The PC version’s visuals and character expressions are set to surpass those of the PS5, claims Square Enix.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth left a lasting impact on players with its compelling narrative, stunning visuals, and faithful reimagining of a classic title. While the game initially launched exclusively on PS5 in February 2024 and fell short of sales expectations, Square Enix is set to release the PC version on January 23, 2025, to attract new players and immerse them in an open world filled with activities and a captivating story.
In a recent YouTube interview with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi, the Japanese game developer discussed the PC version and its enhancements compared to last year’s PS5 edition. The Square Enix executive emphasized that the team has refined the JRPG’s character models and textures in preparation for its release on Steam and Epic Games.
These refinements aim to provide a significantly enhanced visual experience for players with relatively powerful PCs. Among the standout improvements, Hamaguchi noted advancements in lighting processes and character expressions. “We’ve improved the overall lighting processes. Many character renderings, the way expressions are displayed, and how they appear on screen have been significantly enhanced compared to the PS5 version,” Hamaguchi stated (via Genki_JPN).
