Leenzee Games has upgraded its technology to bring another Chinese development to worldwide success after Black Mythos: Wukong.
In a developer diary, the studio talked about Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Producer Xia Siyuan gave some background on the game, followed by the game mechanics and some technical details. But here’s the interesting thing: the game used to run on an older engine, which we find hard to believe, and now the studio has switched to a new version of it. Incredibly, they used to use Unreal Engine 4, and now they’ve replaced it with Unreal Engine 5!
“Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has been upgraded from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5. This brings significant improvements in visual and technical performance. Realistic lighting, scanned models, and physics-based effects, along with a more robust game framework, create a more immersive gaming experience. This upgrade also allows us to better showcase the cultural essence we want to convey,” Xia said.
The producer then went on to talk about the combat system, revealing some new details: “Skyborn Might represents the power of the Feathered Clan, the ability to control karma. As the core of the game’s combat system, Skyborn Might seamlessly blends combo mechanics with RPG builds. The game features five weapon types, with 25 unique weapons spread across these categories. Each weapon offers a distinct fighting style and combo techniques. Players can equip both a primary and secondary weapon. Weapon swapping and quick unlocks further extend combo chains.
The game features 40 different spells that can be assigned to four spell slots. Players can incorporate spells into their weapon combos or choose to forgo weapon combos altogether and create their own spell-focused fighting style. We encourage players to develop their own unique play styles. In the shrine, players can freely try out different weapon skills, discipline skills, and spell combinations at no cost,” Xia added.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, published by 505 Games, will be released later this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
