Star Wars Battlefront is Electronic Arts’ is one of their biggest games for this year (after Visceral’s Battlefield Hardline pretty much flopped), so it’s no surprise to see DICE’s game getting a beta before release… especially because the game will have no single player campaign. Therefore, it’s really essential to give the game an open beta test to make sure everything works in the final code. The open beta will launch a month before release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It will have a 40-player match cap, just like in the final.
There will be three game modes. One of them will be Walker Assault on Hoth (this was seen at E3), with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker as playable characters. The second one is a Survival Mission on Tatooine, throwing players against waves of Imperial forces. The third one is one of the so-far unannounced modes, Drop Zone. EA will announce more details about it in the future.
But sadly, there will be no server browsers on the consoles. Instead, we will get a new, skill-based matchmaking system. Thus, the console will decide instead of us where we will play. It’s a disappointment after Battlefield 4…
