Call of Duty: A Tricky Way to Make This Year’s Game Even More Expensive? [VIDEO]

TECH NEWS – Rumor has it that we’ll have to pay something other than the base price if we want access to everything in Call of Duty 2025.

On Twitter, GhostOfHope, a known insider, shared a rather troubling (and wallet-emptying) rumor about Microsoft’s next surefire success. The tech giant owns Activision Blizzard King, and even if the game’s quality isn’t always stellar, the Call of Duty brand continues to sell like crazy. This isn’t about a base price hike—that’s already been discussed last week when Microsoft confirmed it would raise prices for consoles and some games toward the end of the year. No specific games were mentioned, but Call of Duty usually drops in the fall… it doesn’t take much to connect the dots.

So what’s the rumor about?

Activision and Treyarch are reportedly planning to overhaul the Battle Pass system with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The new entry is expected to feature more seasonal limited-time modes (LTMs), with some being considered “higher value” due to exclusive rewards, mechanics, and gameplay types.

Those limited-time modes may soon require owning the Battle Pass to access. Right now, they’re free for everyone. The plan is to strip the high-value skins, loot, and crossover operators from these modes and lock them behind the Battle Pass—removing what’s now freely given through the Premium Event Track in the current Reloaded updates.

That’s a price increase by stealth. Not only will the base game likely cost more (possibly ditching PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which turn 12 this fall), but the classic fear of missing out (FOMO) tactic is being used as well. It’s sneaky—and nothing is officially confirmed yet!
