Obsidian isn’t calling it quits. The fantasy RPG from the minds behind Fallout: New Vegas now has a clear direction — and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Avowed will continue to evolve with new updates, content drops, and improvements through Fall 2025, as the developers have unveiled their ambitious roadmap for the months ahead.
Released in early 2025, Avowed reaffirmed Obsidian Entertainment’s place as one of the premier fantasy RPG studios in the business. Months have passed since its debut, but the developer isn’t letting it fade — instead, Obsidian is committed to expanding the game with new features and systems. The newly published roadmap lays out a detailed timeline for what’s coming next.
There are three major updates planned throughout 2025. The first, already live, includes a new arachnophobia mode (which turns spiders into floating orbs), mouse and keyboard support on Xbox Series X|S, and improvements to the fog of war on the in-game map. These changes are geared toward accessibility and overall player comfort — but there’s plenty more on the horizon.
In the summer and fall, Obsidian is aiming bigger: a photo mode, New Game Plus, an entirely new weapon category, and more are on the way. Players can also look forward to revamped crafting systems, new skills to unlock, and the ability to alter character appearance mid-game. There are also plans to enhance the interface and implement NVIDIA’s FPS generation support.
Obsidian’s Other 2025 RPG Is Heating Up
While Obsidian hasn’t announced any expansions or story DLCs for Avowed, the studio seems fully focused on polishing The Outer Worlds 2 ahead of its scheduled 2025 launch. A recently released 11-minute gameplay video showcases its sci-fi world in action. Fans can expect a sharper stealth system, fluid combat, deeper character progression, a much larger open world, and richer storytelling and dialogue than the original game.
