More than fifty publishers turned down this open-world RPG, but in just 23 hours, players managed to raise $60,000, showing just how much anticipation there is for Crescent County. Thanks to the community’s passion, Electric Saint’s small indie team is now fully funded and ready to get to work.
The video game industry is going through a turbulent phase, and many studios are struggling to secure funding for their projects. The small team at Electric Saint faced this same uphill battle with Crescent County, their open-world RPG where you play as a young witch riding a motorized broom. After being rejected by over fifty publishers, they finally turned to Kickstarter – a move that paid off, as they reached their funding goal in less than a day.
Specifically, the project hit $60,000 in just 23 hours, well above their original goal of $53,546. At the time of writing, there are still 21 days left on the campaign, and the total has already topped $72,000. Even though Electric Saint kept hitting dead ends with publishers, the enthusiasm and support of gamers gave new life to the project.
“Game funding is extremely, extremely hard right now. Even though we have a lot of experience and have shown Crescent County to plenty of publishers, new team,s and new IPs all over the world are struggling to get backing and support,” Electric Saint wrote on their Kickstarter page. “We’ve spent two years and a ton of energy on this road, and sometimes it’s just exhausting. We just want to make a great game.”
Motorbrooms, vibrant worlds, and a unique adventure
Now that the funding is secured, the team can truly dive into development: at an as-yet-unknown date, players will step into the shoes of a young witch in a vibrant single-player open-world adventure. By day, you’ll deliver packages, by night, you’ll race on motorbrooms through city streets – meeting all kinds of quirky NPCs along the way.
Crescent County stands out visually as well and is coming to PC and Xbox Series, with a demo available now on Steam. Although there’s no word yet on a release date, the strong Kickstarter start and steady support clearly show the community believes in this project.
