Is Tango Gameworks Working on a Hi-Fi Rush Sequel?

Now under Krafton’s ownership, the studio has relaunched with a new website and logo — and with only one IP left in its hands, signs point to a new Hi-Fi Rush project.

Tango Gameworks, the developer behind Hi-Fi Rush, has officially reopened its Tokyo office after being acquired by Krafton in August last year. The team is now recruiting for a number of roles tied to an early-stage, unannounced action game. “It took us some time, but the official office for Tango Gameworks, Inc. is open, and our hybrid work environment finally has its in-office counterpart! These things take time, but our office in Tokyo is open again as we fill it with memorabilia from our projects and decorate based on our new brand identity,” the studio wrote on its website.

Tango Gameworks is hiring across nearly all departments. Positions include lead application programmer, lead graphics programmer, lead systems programmer, UI programmer, lead level designer, lead animator, cutscene manager, lead VFX technical artist, lead character artist, facilities manager, and IT support specialist. The job listings confirm that the new project will use Unreal Engine 5 and is targeted for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

The studio was originally shut down last year alongside Arkane Austin and several other teams. While the closure of Redfall’s developers came as little surprise due to the game’s underperformance, many were shocked by the shutdown of Tango Gameworks, which was riding high on the success of Hi-Fi Rush and still had unannounced titles in the pipeline. Although the Hi-Fi Rush IP remained with Krafton, other franchises developed by the studio — including The Evil Within and Ghostwire: Tokyo — are still owned by Microsoft.

Given this situation, launching development on a Hi-Fi Rush sequel seems like the most efficient and logical next step. The game was a breakout hit, and market demand for a follow-up is likely high. While nothing is confirmed, it seems increasingly clear what the studio’s next big project might be.
