Hellblade 2: Series S Owners Miss Out on 60 FPS—Xbox Issues a Clear Warning!

Xbox wants to avoid any confusion: the Enhanced Edition is free, but Hellblade 2 won’t run at 60 FPS on every current-gen console. Microsoft clarified that while Xbox Series S will get the upgrade, Performance Mode simply won’t be available on this device.

Senua’s journey is set to expand far beyond just Xbox and PC. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, one of 2024’s most ambitious games thanks to its Unreal Engine 5 tech, is gearing up for a PS5 launch with an Enhanced Edition. This update will roll out to all major platforms—offering better visuals and extra features—but one Xbox console will be left out of a crucial upgrade: 60 FPS gameplay.

In a low-key post on the official Xbox blog, Microsoft confirmed that the Xbox Series S will not support Performance Mode. “With Performance Mode, we’re excited to provide the option to experience the game at 60 FPS (not available on Xbox Series S),” the announcement reads. This means users of Microsoft’s most affordable console won’t get smoother gameplay unless they switch to an Xbox Series X, a high-end PC, or even a PS5.

Series S Still Gets Enhanced Edition Features

Still, the Enhanced Edition’s new content isn’t just for the beefier hardware. No matter the platform, all players can enjoy the new Challenge Mode, developer commentary, a revamped Photo Mode, and verified Steam Deck support. All of these updates will be free to anyone who already owns the game or plays it via Xbox Game Pass.

The community isn’t shocked by the news, as many expected the Series S to face some limits due to its lower specs. The game, known for its cinematic immersion and haunting atmosphere, already ran at 30 FPS on Series S, and it looks like that will remain the norm for this console.

The Enhanced Edition launches in about two months, and it’s unclear whether Ninja Theory will share more details about version differences before then. For now, Series S users can look forward to a stable visual experience, but won’t see the extra fluidity that other platforms are getting.
