The refund window has been extended, as players are far from thrilled with the overpriced remaster.
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine: Master Crafted Edition is practically the same action title released nearly 15 years ago, just with slightly upgraded visuals to make those massive shoulder pads look rounder. Unfortunately, the game is riddled with issues. The new weapon wheel clutters the center of the screen and stays there for too long. Black screen bugs and random crashes that boot players back to the desktop still plague it.
Then there’s the pricing: $80 for a remaster with minimal updates and almost no active multiplayer community. That didn’t sit well with players—especially those who already owned the Anniversary Edition, which came with all DLCs, an art book, strategy guide, soundtrack, and extras back in 2021.
The backlash was immediate, with Steam user reviews plummeting to 71% negative. Unsurprisingly, the devs have now issued an apology and backtracked a little. “If you already purchased Space Marine: Master Crafted Edition, you can request a full refund regardless of playtime until 7 p.m. CEST on July 10, when the Steam Summer Sale ends,” the official post reads.
Those who own the Anniversary Edition can also get 50% off the new version—but only until July 10. To claim the discount, players must refund the current version and repurchase it. The team promises several patches in the coming weeks.
Fixes and improvements on the way
The Dutch, Polish, and Italian localizations have been improved. Translations for game modes, controller setups, and key phrases (like Skar Boyz) are being refined. Chat input, scoreboard layout, and HUD elements are all being adjusted. Menu spacing and alignment are also being cleaned up. Mission selection, unlock notifications, and subtitle persistence are seeing improvements.
New button prompts, sound effects, and controller glyphs are being added—covering Steam Deck and Switch Pro support. Bugs like softlocks, graphical glitches, and input issues across screens are being resolved. A specific bug in Exterminatus wave 5 has also been fixed. Coop Live tokens are being restored, and ammo display in the weapon wheel is being corrected.
Challenge badges, shield visuals, campaign info inconsistencies, and map loading errors are being addressed. Steam Deck now runs the game properly, controller disconnects on PC are handled better, and session codes now show up properly in streamer mode. EOS invite issues and P2P lobby splits are being worked on, too. Profile data has been moved to AppData to prevent config crashes.
Memory safety is being added for loadouts. Fade animations are getting cleaned up. Missing and duplicated SFX events are being resolved, and button textures and VFX glitches are also being patched.
The pricing still remains a major issue.
