The next title from Bethesda Game Studios (BGS) is reportedly progressing well, meaning Todd Howard’s next project is not stuck in development hell.
In fact, development on The Elder Scrolls VI appears to be well underway. Expectations that it will appear at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase are not just speculation, but rather educated guesses. Jez Corden, editor of Windows Central, discussed this in the latest episode of the Xbox Two podcast. Corden said that the latest installment in the franchise, The Elder Scrolls VI, is already in a fairly playable state. He did not provide any further information but said that the game’s current state means it could make its debut at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase.
Unfortunately, the release date remains unknown. We’re guessing 2027, but Corden has no idea how far along the game is because sources within Bethesda are hard to find. Although it’s been almost 14 years since the release of the fifth installment in the franchise, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, fans of the Bethesda series can make the wait for The Elder Scrolls VI more bearable by returning to Cyrodiil with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. This remaster uses Unreal Engine 5 for rendering and the game’s original engine for gameplay. It provides an experience that is extremely faithful to the original while updating it as needed.
We predict that The Elder Scrolls VI will be released in autumn 2027 because it now takes five years to make a AAA game. It used to take four years, and before that, three years or less. As development time has increased, so has the budget. With that increase, Microsoft started to push artificial intelligence, as reflected in today’s news.
The Elder Scrolls VI will almost certainly not be available on PlayStation immediately.
