The genre for CD Projekt RED’s mysterious new IP has finally been revealed. After The Witcher and Cyberpunk, the slow-cooking Project Hadar is quietly taking shape—with just 15 developers on board, don’t expect this game to land for at least ten more years.
CD Projekt RED, famous for crafting immersive worlds in The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, is quietly building something totally new: Project Hadar. While gamers are still waiting for new entries in both established universes, the Polish studio is laying the first bricks for a brand-new IP—still in its infancy and advancing at a glacial pace.
Thanks to a job posting for a senior gameplay designer, discovered by tech4gamers, we finally know what type of game Hadar will be: it’s an action RPG with a heavy focus on melee combat. The requirements mention “five years of professional experience in RPG/action titles with melee-oriented combat,” which hints at gameplay closer to The Witcher than Cyberpunk’s gunplay. It’s a notable pivot back to the studio’s roots in fantasy brawling.
Project Hadar: Only 17 Developers Working On It Right Now
Right now, Project Hadar is only in its earliest pre-production phase, with just 17 people working on it as of February 2025. That team will eventually grow, but CD Projekt’s main focus is still on The Witcher 4 (and its planned trilogy), the Cyberpunk sequel, a Witcher spin-off, and the long-awaited remake of the original game. With all that on their plate, it wouldn’t be surprising if Hadar doesn’t release for another decade unless priorities shift.
