Bloober Team Proved Everyone Wrong after Silent Hill 2 Remake!

The Polish studio proved us wrong, showing that reimagining Team Silent’s work is possible after all.

Before Silent Hill 2 Remake became a hit, Bloober Team worked for two years under the strict scrutiny of fans, many of whom had experienced too many disappointments. Horror fans didn’t consider Bloober’s earlier horror games solid enough proof that they could pull off a remake of one of the genre’s biggest classics.

But the studio succeeded, rapidly growing its reputation among horror fans and winning over Konami, which soon greenlit a remake of the original Silent Hill. Now, the next Bloober project, Cronos: The New Dawn—closer in spirit to Resident Evil—comes from the team that brought us Silent Hill 2 Remake, and this comparison is now a compliment, not a criticism. That distinction was important for the Polish studio’s morale, as director Jacek Zięba of Cronos: The New Dawn told PCGamer.

“After Silent Hill, we’re starting to shed that feeling of always being underestimated. Silent Hill wasn’t easy in the public’s eyes. Many said, ‘Don’t let Bloober do it, they’ll ruin it.’ It was tough for the whole company to stick to our guns and put all our energy into this, even when most people didn’t want us to. We proved people wrong, and that feels good. Now we’re in a different place. I think we’re riding a wave of interest, and we have to deliver. We know we have to deliver. We put our hearts into every game and do everything we can to make them the best,” said Zięba.

Zięba says that after Silent Hill 2’s success, Bloober Team is in a different situation, with players now more interested in what the studio is doing. For my part, I’m glad to see the studio return to its roots with Cronos: The New Dawn, set in their hometown of Krakow, blending sci-fi disaster and 1980s Soviet aesthetics. Cronos still faces pressure to perform, especially after the success of Silent Hill 2, but the skepticism is gone.

Lead writer Grzegorz Like added that the team wants to keep evolving after Silent Hill 2 Remake. He said that after every game release, they learn, change, and improve. Zięba compared Silent Hill and Cronos to two pizzas with different toppings: even if you’ve already made the perfect one, maybe now you can make another.

Cronos: The New Dawn will launch this fall on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
