If the price of the new Dying Light seems high to you, know this: the studio ditched the “overpriced DLC” label ages ago. According to Techland, the €59.99 tag is fully justified—in terms of sheer content, it’s well worth it.
What began as a simple expansion for Dying Light 2: Stay Human has ballooned into such a large-scale and ambitious project that Techland is launching it as a full standalone title. The Beast is the next stop in the Polish studio’s zombie-parkour saga, bringing back Crane and hitting shelves for €60—a price point that has sparked some debate. However, the devs insist that the game’s unexpected evolution and content justify every cent, and could even set a new bar for the franchise.
Tymon Smektała, the director of the series, explained in an interview with TheThumbWars that the project grew massively between late 2024 and early 2025: content was added, systems were improved, and the engine was optimized—until they finally decided The Beast deserved a mainline release. “One day we realized that this could be the best Dying Light we’ve ever created.”
Dying Light: The Beast Will Be a Full-Fledged Main Entry
According to Smektała, every quantitative measure—number of missions, cutscene minutes, new enemies, unique characters, collectibles, secrets—far surpasses what they expected from an expansion. In every respect, Dying Light: The Beast is bigger, denser, and more advanced than we originally assumed. That’s why he urges skeptical gamers not to judge the price before seeing the final product.
The length backs up the decision as well: the main campaign can be completed in about 20 hours, but if you explore side quests and optional content, that number easily doubles. Smektała notes that his own recent playthrough—without being a completionist—took 37 hours, which goes far beyond the typical scope of a DLC.
Yet doubts linger. With games like Mafia: The Old Country launching at €49.99, many hoped this former Dying Light 2 DLC would follow suit. Even so, Techland believes the game is ambitious and substantial enough to justify the full price—and promises a return to the parkour and zombie combat that made the series great.
