EVO 2025: Major Announcements Shake Up the Fighting Game Scene [VIDEO]

EVO 2025 delivered a wave of news from fighting game heavyweights: a brand new Virtua Fighter project, Tekken 8 DLCs, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls beta, and more. The genre’s renaissance continues.

We’ve already touched on the latest version of Virtua Fighter 5, but the EVO 2025 World Championship has brought even more reveals worth covering. SEGA showcased a short teaser for its upcoming Virtua Fighter game, codenamed New Virtua Fighter Project, which is expected in the coming years. The trailer, less than a minute long, features practice-stage brawling with fluid animations and forceful strikes. SEGA first confirmed the project last November, followed by a full reveal at The Game Awards, where we learned the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (Yakuza/Like a Dragon) is behind development. An early development video even popped up at CES during Nvidia’s showcase.

Virtua Fighter may have been the headline, but there was much more at EVO. Bandai Namco announced a new Tekken 8 DLC character: Armor King joins the roster on October 13 for Season 2 Character Pass owners and on October 16 for everyone else. Another new fighter, Miary Zo from Madagascar, arrives this winter with a new stage, Baobab Horizon. In Invincible VS, developed by Quarter Up, Omni-Man will be a playable character—hardly a surprise, as he’s a major figure in the IP. The game launches in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

Finally, Arc System Works announced a closed beta for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on PlayStation 5 from September 5–7, with sign-ups now open on the PlayStation site. The beta includes six playable characters, online matches, a spectator mode, and a tutorial.

All signs point to a fighting game renaissance, and that’s good news for fans. Competition breeds creativity, and this latest round of reveals promises plenty of fresh experiences ahead.
