Cyberpunk 2077 fans believe there’s a serious flaw with cyberware customization, and it’s not just the absence of cyberpsychosis. If the game truly showed every modification, half the characters would look like RoboCop or the Terminator.
There’s no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way since its launch in 2020, but it’s equally true that CD Projekt hasn’t fulfilled every promise. Many fans still find certain systems underdeveloped — including the cybernetic enhancement mechanics.
One long-standing question is why excessive cyberware installation doesn’t trigger cyberpsychosis in the protagonist, as depicted in the Edgerunners series. In the game, there are virtually no penalties for replacing every part of your body until you resemble a Terminator or RoboCop capable of stopping trains, dodging bullets, and running like the Flash.
Recently, Reddit user Electronic_Ad_4638 reignited the discussion by asking: “Does V really have that much cyberware?” His post included a mirror screenshot of a fully upgraded character, revealing that V looks far less modified than many other in-game characters or those in Edgerunners.
Some players highlight how the game simply doesn’t display most physical modifications: “In this example, you’ve replaced your arms, your legs, your eyes, your skin, your skeleton, parts of your spine, parts of your brain, your hands, and your FACE,” one wrote. Others added: “I never understood why the devs didn’t let you see all the Chrome you’ve installed. Lore-wise, V is chromed to the moon and back.”
While some argue most cyberware is internal and shouldn’t be visible, that doesn’t account for external leg, arm, and head modifications that logically should be. Many armor-granting upgrades also fail to appear on the character’s skin.
Players generally agree that the visual evolution of V’s body could be far more dramatic — and the lack of cyberpsychosis feels like a missed opportunity. Still, implementing such a system would be an enormous challenge for the developers, requiring every external piece to be designed to work with all outfits, animations, and even vehicle interiors. Would it be amazing? Absolutely. But realistically… it might be too much.
