Two years after fans started demanding it, Diablo 4 might finally bring the most requested class to the game. If true, this upcoming expansion could shake things up in a big way.
Diablo 4 remains one of the strongest ARPGs out there, and Blizzard continues treating it as an evolving live service. Sanctuary grows with each season, but players have consistently asked for one thing: a brand-new playable class to refresh the gameplay experience.
Could the Paladin Really Be Returning?
Good news for those praying for the Paladin’s return: a curious internal build has surfaced on Blizzard’s servers under the name 2.5Xpaladin.67961. This was spotted by fans via DiabloNext, and while it’s far from an official confirmation, it certainly sets off speculation alarms.
Longtime players will remember that the Paladin only appeared in Diablo II, with Diablo III opting instead for the Crusader class. Diablo IV launched with five core classes (Barbarian, Rogue, Sorcerer, Druid, Necromancer), and the Vessel of Hatred expansion introduced the Spiritborn. Now, Blizzard could be prepping for a similar surprise — possibly for version 3.0.
Although the identifier says 2.5, it could easily be placeholder code for content that will launch with the next major expansion. Some theories suggest that Blizzard is already testing the Paladin with a select group of users — though nothing is officially confirmed. The return of the Paladin would mean bringing back melee-holy hybrid combat, aura buffs, shields, and support skills perfect for dungeons, boss fights, and PvP.
Until Blizzard confirms it, take it all with a grain of salt. Still, signs are pointing in an exciting direction.
