Directive 8020: A Dark Pictures Game: Another Game Delayed Until Next Year! [VIDEO]

We can watch 13 minutes of gameplay from Supermassive Games’ title, which will not be released on the previously announced date.

Earth is dying, and humanity is running out of time. Twelve light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a glimmer of hope. After the colony ship Cassiopeia crash-lands on the planet, the crew realizes they are not alone. Hunted by an alien organism that can mimic its prey, the Cassiopeia’s crew must outsmart their pursuers to survive. As they battle to survive, they are confronted with the hardest choice of all: to save themselves, they must risk the lives of everyone on Earth. In space, death takes many forms.

The Cassiopeia is infected with an alien organism capable of transforming into any crew member. While you may appear human, others in your crew might not be. Killers can hide behind familiar faces. New stealth mechanics have been added to help players evade these deadly foes. You must keep your wits about you, as enemies can emerge from unexpected places. You’ll need to sneak and hide to get past these deadly alien stalkers. Over the course of this expedition, you’ll control five crew members, but as paranoia and fear build, so does distrust. With their lives in your hands, your decisions will determine the fate of not only the crew, but also all of humanity.

Directive 8020 introduces several new tools. Throughout the game, you can use them to locate secrets, solve puzzles, and defeat enemies. The mission is all about survival, so each tool serves a purpose in helping you think on your feet and stay alive. As you would expect from this studio’s games, you will spend a lot of time creeping around in the dark. Be careful when using your flashlight though, as aliens can spot the beam. You have a scanner to detect electronics and activate systems remotely, which helps distract enemies and overcome obstacles. Your messenger allows you to communicate and strategize with your crewmates while staying under the radar. It’s made for opening doors, but, as a last resort, it can also temporarily stun enemies, giving you a chance to slip away and evade death.

Fans of Supermassive Games’ previous releases will be pleased to know that The Dark Pictures still has the same DNA—everything you love about it is still here, from branching plotlines to impossible choices and split-second quick-time events. Additionally, the gameplay has been redesigned, polished, and amped up to create a greater sense of threat while exploring the environment.

Directive 8020: A Dark Pictures Game, was originally scheduled for release on October 2, but Supermassive Games pushed it back to 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The video shows 13 minutes of gameplay from the prologue.

Anikó, our news editor and communication manager, is more interested in the business side of the gaming industry. She worked at banks, and she has a vast knowledge of business life. Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
