This New Star Trek Game Might Undo One of the Toughest Decisions in the Series!

The upcoming Star Trek: Voyager video game will give players the chance to reverse one of the series’ most controversial and heartbreaking decisions — even if it means sacrificing two crewmates.

At Gamescom 2025, Gamexcite and Daedalic Entertainment unveiled Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, a survival-strategy and interactive fiction title featuring the beloved characters of the classic sci-fi series, which first aired nearly 30 years ago. Among its standout features is the ability to explore alternate “What if…?” scenarios that could forever reshape the USS Voyager’s journey through the Delta Quadrant. One of those scenarios revisits the most infamous choice ever made by Captain Kathryn Janeway: the fate of Tuvix.

“Ever wonder what would have happened if the captain had chosen differently? Or if a crew member had taken another path? Or what if the Voyager had embraced Borg technology to improve their survival chances? Now you can find out. Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown lets players seize command of the starship and shape its voyage as they see fit,” reads the game’s Steam description. This includes re-examining one of the most divisive moments in the series — deciding Tuvix’s destiny.

For newcomers: in Voyager’s Season 2, Episode 24, a transporter accident — triggered partly by an alien flower — fused Tuvok and Neelix into a single entity. The result was Tuvix, a being who embodied the traits, memories, and personalities of both men yet emerged as a wholly new individual. Unable to reverse the accident initially, the crew accepted Tuvix as one of their own.

Eventually, the Doctor discovered a way to restore Tuvok and Neelix. But this led to a harrowing moral dilemma: should they effectively end one life to bring back two others? Bound by his Hippocratic Oath, the Doctor refused to proceed, but Janeway made the agonizing decision to separate them, ignoring Tuvix’s plea for survival. His haunting final words — “Each of you will have to live with this. And I am very sorry, because you are good, very good people. My colleagues. My friends.” — remain etched in fandom history, sparking decades of debate and accusations of murder.

A Random Event with Life-or-Death Consequences

In Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, this storyline appears as a randomized event that players must resolve, altering the Dauntless-class ship’s path in unexpected ways. Would you preserve Tuvix’s life at the cost of two longtime crew members? Or would you side with Janeway and sacrifice him for the sake of restoring Tuvok and Neelix? After years of fan controversy, it’s finally up to the players to render judgment — once the game officially launches.
