According to a well-known leaker, the Japanese company has already made two failed attempts at reviving the Dino Crisis franchise—maybe the third time really is the charm?
Rumor has it that Capcom tried to reboot Dino Crisis not once, but twice. Both projects were reportedly abandoned due to poor quality. This information comes from trusted insider Dusk Golem, who shared the details on X (formerly Twitter) after being asked about the franchise’s status. The first attempt came from Capcom Vancouver, the team behind Dead Rising 2, 3, and 4. The second try was handled by an unnamed Capcom team, but neither made it far enough to enter full development.
“I hope Capcom eventually figures out what they want to do with Dino Crisis. For the record, there have been a couple of attempts in the last decade to remake it. The first was by Capcom Vancouver before they shut down. I still have the leaked materials saved on my hard drive. The second was a few years ago, but it didn’t go well and was scrapped. I hope they eventually make it past the prototype stage,” Dusk Golem wrote.

Signs of a possible comeback?
Even though the earlier remake projects failed, there is reason to believe the franchise isn’t extinct just yet. Earlier this year, Capcom re-registered the Dino Crisis trademark in Japan—a move typically signaling plans to reuse an IP. The same action was mirrored in Brazil not long after.
Adding to the optimism, both Dino Crisis 1 and 2 are now available on GOG, making them easily playable on modern PCs. A modernized remake wouldn’t require a reinvention: just take the over-the-shoulder camera from the Resident Evil 4 Remake and adapt it to the classic survival horror formula of the original. Throw in a few turret-gun set pieces, and you’d even capture the more action-packed tone of the sequel.
