Stardew Valley Creator Mysteriously Appears in Hollow Knight Silksong, Fans Speculate Which Creature He Voiced

Stardew Valley’s father has found a curious way into Silksong, and now fans are speculating about which creature carries his voice. Eric Barone shows up in the credits of Team Cherry’s Metroidvania but refuses to reveal the character he played.

Silksong has been out for just over 24 hours, and players are already uncovering hidden details and secrets. One of the most intriguing discoveries involves Eric Barone, the indie developer who conquered gamers with his beloved Stardew Valley. The community noticed his name listed in the credits of Team Cherry’s new Metroidvania, although Barone himself refuses to disclose what role he played in the realm of Pharloom.

Specifically, his name appears under “Additional Character Voices,” which means the Stardew Valley creator contributed to Silksong by voicing certain creatures of Pharloom. Those who have played Hornet’s adventure—or even Hollow Knight—know that Team Cherry’s characters don’t speak in full sentences but instead emit strange sounds accompanied by text boxes. So, Barone’s work wasn’t that of a traditional voice actor but rather providing atmospheric noises fitting the game’s style.

But is this really the same Eric Barone who created Stardew Valley, or just another person with the same name? The Verge decided to settle the matter and reached out to ConcernedApe, Barone’s studio, which confirmed that it was indeed him. However, the developer said he “prefers not to say which character(s) [he voiced], so as not to spoil the surprise for anyone.” Unsurprisingly, fans are already debating which creature—or perhaps several—speak with the voice of one of the most successful indie creators ever.

Silksong is shattering records

Meanwhile, Hornet’s journey continues to attract massive attention around the world. The launch was so overwhelming it crashed Steam and other digital storefronts, with hundreds of thousands rushing to play on day one. Silksong has had a spectacular debut, reaching over 560,000 concurrent players on Valve’s platform. In fact, it only took 10 minutes to surpass Hollow Knight’s peak. The hype is so intense that even pirates are admitting this is a game worth paying for.
