It was once hailed as the greatest horror experience ever made, and Bayonetta’s creator says he’d like to bring it back — with the surprising twist that it wouldn’t be scary. Silent Hills/PT remains the Kojima game that never saw the light of day, but Hideki Kamiya would gladly take over.
The canceled Silent Hills project from Hideo Kojima has been one of gaming’s most talked-about “what ifs.” Ever since the release of PT, the Playable Teaser that captivated millions before Kojima’s split with Konami, fans have assumed the game was gone forever. And so far, that’s true — but who knows what the future may hold? Hideki Kamiya, the director of Resident Evil 2 and the creator of Devil May Cry, has now suggested he’d like to revive PT — just not as a horror game.
PT was meant as a preview for Silent Hills before it was abruptly scrapped. The demo became a cultural phenomenon, inspiring countless future horror titles. Fans still wonder what the full game could have been like, especially with Norman Reedus attached to star and Guillermo del Toro collaborating with Kojima on the project.
Kamiya Open to Taking the Helm
Eleven years may have passed since PT, but Kamiya hasn’t forgotten. On social media, he revealed that even though he dislikes horror, he wouldn’t mind taking on Silent Hills — with the caveat that his version would not be a horror game and that he doesn’t currently have concrete ideas for it.
He also admitted he would much prefer Kojima himself to return to the series, though that seems unlikely. Kojima has long since moved on, with projects like Death Stranding, OD, and Physint keeping him busy in the decade since leaving Konami.
While no official announcement has been made about PT’s revival, anticipation remains alive. Nostalgia for the demo, Kamiya’s interest, and the Silent Hill franchise’s resurgence following the Silent Hill 2 remake all fuel the community’s hope that psychological horror could make a comeback in some form.
