GFA Games has announced that its game will soon be available for another trial run. Since the previous version wasn’t perfect, the developers have been working hard to improve several criticized elements.
The developer GFA Games has revealed that its upcoming MMOFPS, Pioner, will receive an open beta in October. The game is still scheduled for release on PC at the end of 2025, with console versions to follow later. Pioner was already available for a limited time during Steam Next Fest in June. After that trial, the developers shared a list of planned changes to Pioner’s PvP mode.
The studio is working to make Capture the Flag more traditional. Players will no longer be forced to spend excessive time capturing the flag. Locations will be assigned point names — A, B, and C — to help players better navigate the map and coordinate with teammates. GFA Games is also addressing visibility issues by implementing a special type of visualization that highlights enemies (NPCs and players) against the environment. In addition, lighting elements that obstruct visibility are being modified. The team is also working on fixing unsynchronized player movements that cause noticeable “jittering” when enemies and allies move.
The netcode is still being refined. As it stands, it’s not yet fully polished, which can result in hits not registering or kills/deaths occurring more quickly than intended. The accuracy of hitboxes for certain environmental objects will also be improved. While the developers tried to identify as many of these issues as possible before the test, some still remain in specific areas of the maps. They’ve gathered all existing feedback on PvP weapon balance and plan to implement more adjustments soon.
That said, the demo presented at June’s Steam Next Fest showed that Pioner was still rough around the edges. The October open beta might represent a significant improvement, but it’s possible the game still needs more time in development.
