Silent Hill f pushes PS5 visuals to the limit – but at a PS2 resolution [VIDEO]

Neobards and Konami’s latest horror title dazzles with Unreal Engine 5-powered graphics, but it demands such heavy compromises that the PS5 version dips as low as 360p in Performance Mode, while even the PS5 Pro isn’t spared.

Silent Hill f is launching soon, promising an eerie, gripping experience that could rank among the franchise’s best. Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and Lumen, its visuals are key to its chilling atmosphere—but these graphics come at a steep price on consoles, especially PlayStation 5 models.

According to a new comparison video by ElAnalistaDeBits (embedded below), Performance Mode on the standard PS5 runs at internal resolutions ranging from 720p down to 360p. That’s shockingly low, resembling the PS2 or PS3 era. On the PS5 Pro, resolution locks at 720p, which is still underwhelming considering its hardware.

Visual noise and forced upscaling on PS5 Pro

Even more concerning is the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaling implementation on the PS5 Pro. Players are seeing visible noise in shadows and ambient occlusion areas—issues also reported in Silent Hill 2 Remake and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This upscaling feature cannot be turned off, meaning Pro users are stuck with it unless a future patch resolves the issues.

Interestingly, PC performance is more stable overall. The game runs fairly well on capable rigs, with only a few hiccups in the opening and later stages. Still, the fact that many users need to scale down from 1080p signals that even modern PCs struggle to fully utilize Unreal Engine 5 without compromises.

Summary: Silent Hill f is hauntingly beautiful, but achieving that beauty means sacrificing resolution—especially on PS5. If you’re playing on console, expect visuals straight out of the PS2 era. The PC version fares better, but even that has its limitations.
