Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2: Development Is Progressing as Planned

Konami is continuing its efforts to bring classic Metal Gear Solid titles to modern platforms, and the highly anticipated second installment of the collection remains on track. With the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, fans are now eagerly waiting for news on Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2, which was discussed during the Metal Gear Production Hotline at the Tokyo Game Show.

During the event, series producer Noriaki Okamura addressed fan curiosity about the status of the project. While he avoided revealing any concrete details, he assured everyone that the team is still actively developing the second volume of the collection.

“It has certainly taken quite a while now. Since we called the first installment Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, it’s only natural to expect a second one. That’s what we said years ago. But, as we’ve said many times, we are working on it. We’ve been working on it properly while also producing Metal Gear Solid Delta. When the time is right, we’d like to share with you not only its progress, but also our plans for the future. I’m sorry; it feels like I always have to say this, but please wait just a little longer. It’s hard to say exactly how long ‘a little longer’ means. However, the project is moving forward properly, and we believe it’s shaping up to be enjoyable. So please wait a little while longer; more information is coming,” said Okamura.

It’s been almost two years since the release of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1. While Konami had confirmed long ago that a second volume was in development, there has been almost no official information about it or which games it will feature. According to rumors, the pack might include Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

One of the biggest challenges is decoupling Metal Gear Solid 4 from the PlayStation 3’s Cell architecture — for which it was originally designed — and modernizing it for today’s hardware. However, the RPCS3 emulator figured out how to run MGS4 on PC years ago. If they managed it, Konami surely can too.
