Halo: Combat Evolved Remake: Halo Studios Isn’t Working on It Alone? [VIDEO]

According to a new rumor, Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) is receiving help with the latest remake of Master Chief’s first adventure — because this certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

Rumor has it that the long-awaited Halo: Combat Evolved Remake is being developed by Halo Studios in collaboration with a studio called Virtuos. In a new video (embedded below), Rebs Gaming, who has consistently been a reliable source for Halo-related leaks, revealed that Abstraction, one of Virtuos’ studios, is working on the remake alongside one of Microsoft’s internal teams. XboxEra later confirmed the report, adding that the franchise’s developer remains the lead studio, so this is not an outsourced project.

Rebs Gaming reiterated that the Halo: Combat Evolved Remake will use Unreal Engine 5 for rendering and a modified version of the Halo: Reach Blam engine for gameplay. He emphasized that the remake will faithfully recreate the original experience while adding new gameplay elements and modern visuals. Although Rebs Gaming has proven extremely reliable in the past, these claims should still be taken with caution.

Given Virtuos’ proven expertise with hybrid engine development — as demonstrated with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater — it wouldn’t be surprising if the developer joined this project as well. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long to find out if the Halo: Combat Evolved Remake will be part of the series’ future.

Halo Studios will discuss the franchise’s future at the Halo World Championship on October 24. That’s still three weeks away, and if leaks are already emerging, there’s about a 95% chance they’re accurate. At this point, promotional materials are usually ready to go, making early leaks more likely.
