It’s taken more than a decade for Assassin’s Creed to reintroduce one of the most iconic – and sorely missed – features in the series, and fans can’t wait to get their hands on it. The Valley of Remembrance DLC arrives in November for Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, bringing back the legendary jump.
Most people would assume that in an open-world saga where parkour — a fundamental part of the franchise’s identity, even if its prominence has varied — a basic action like jumping would always be present. But that’s not the case. Although Assassin’s Creed has pushed parkour further with Shadows — especially after it was downplayed during the RPG era — we haven’t had a dedicated jump button since Unity. That’s finally changing with Assassin’s Creed: Mirage and the Valley of Memory expansion, even if it’s taken “only” 11 years to return.
The announcement came via a developer diary, where Olivier Leonardi, the DLC’s creative director, outlined the update’s new features. Beyond enabling main mission replays with fresh rewards, the patch introduces parkour improvements, new tools, and visual filters inspired by past titles like Origins and Odyssey. But the undeniable highlight is the return of the free jump, restoring the sense of movement freedom players have been longing for.
Fans Are More Excited About Jumping Than the DLC Itself
On platforms like Reddit, players haven’t hidden their excitement. “Wow, jumping’s back!” exclaimed one fan, summing up the enthusiasm sparked by the return of a feature that once defined the series’ essence. Since Origins, the franchise has leaned more heavily into RPG-style gameplay and vast world exploration, sacrificing some of the agility and dynamism that characterized the early titles.
Many still miss Arno’s fluidity and parkour prowess in Unity, widely considered the series’s peak in terms of movement — something we haven’t seen in over a decade. In the case of Mirage, designed as a “classic soul” entry that harkens back to the original games, parkour was once again somewhat limited in scope and execution. Now, however, Basim’s adventure takes a meaningful step forward in recapturing the seamless movement many associate with the franchise’s golden era.
Although there are still some questions about how Valley of Memory fits into the story, this update is a clear nod to the original Assassin’s Creed DNA. And as free content launching on November 18, it’s absolutely worth revisiting the game to experience this long-awaited return.
