Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Surpasses 5 Million Sales, Free Major Update in the Works

Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive have officially announced another major milestone for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has now surpassed 5 million copies sold since its launch, with a large free update currently in development as a thank-you to fans.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched on April 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, and is also available via Xbox Game Pass. The turn-based RPG sold 500,000 copies within 24 hours, 1 million within three days, 2 million after two weeks, and reached 3.3 million after 33 days. Since then, an additional 1.7 million copies have been sold, bringing total sales to over 5 million units.

The studio revealed that a free major update is in development, introducing a new playable environment that takes the Expedition 33 characters to an entirely new location filled with new enemies and surprises. The update will also add new challenging bosses in later stages, new outfits for all party members, and several quality-of-life improvements. Language support will expand to include Czech, Ukrainian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, and Indonesian—raising the total number of supported languages to 19.

Alongside this milestone, Sandfall Interactive shared that the game’s soundtrack, composed by Lorien Testard, has reached over 333 million streams on digital platforms. It topped the Billboard Classical & Classical Crossover Album charts for over ten weeks and reached number one on the iTunes Top 100 Albums chart in nine countries, including France.

“The feedback we’ve received from players has been simply incredible. We spent years crafting our dream project, and knowing it has resonated so deeply with fans worldwide is both humbling and heartwarming. We’re deeply grateful to our fans for embracing the world we created, for sharing their fan art and music, for wearing their best Baguette cosplays at conventions, and for their unwavering support. We hope the update we’re working on will serve as a heartfelt thank-you for that love and patience — our team is working hard to make it worth the wait,” said Guillaume Broche, creative director at Sandfall Interactive.

Congratulations to the studio on this remarkable success!
