Paleolith: Hardcore Survival, But How Difficult Is It?

The style of Valheim is echoed here, but this time the game leans closer to Far Cry Primal.

Developed by NatureGames, Paleolith can best be described as a blend between Valheim and Far Cry Primal, though with a much higher difficulty level. It’s a hardcore first-person survival simulator set in the brutal wilderness of humanity’s dawn. Relying only on your instincts and primal skills, you must endure a world where nature is merciless yet fair. Hunger might be the least of your worries when you’re battling freezing cold, suffering from illness and insomnia, or tending to broken bones after a misstep. Survival isn’t just about eating—it’s about maintaining your health and keeping your senses sharp. Stay alert, because danger can be seen, heard, and even smelled before it strikes.

Gathering resources is just the beginning. Every action counts—one careless mistake while building a shelter or sharpening a spear can set you back significantly. Then there’s the delicate art of fire-making, essential for warmth, cooking, and protection. Every tool, structure, and fire you create is a hard-fought victory against nature itself. Run around carelessly, and wildlife will avoid you long before you even spot them. Stealth is key to a successful hunt—it’s not just about staying unseen. You must mask your scent and noise, set traps, and plan your approach carefully. Fail, and you’ll go hungry.

Your journey begins in summer, giving you time to prepare before nature truly tests you. Winter brings the ultimate challenge—freezing temperatures, dwindling resources, and relentless cold that push your survival skills to the limit. Seasons aren’t merely visual—they shape the world itself. Plants wither, animals migrate, and rivers freeze solid. Adapt or die. If hunger doesn’t kill you, something else will. Wild beasts, poisonous plants, infections, and untreated injuries can all be as deadly as the cold. Poor preparation can lead to disease, and even walking through the forest without proper clothing can injure you. Every step must be calculated carefully.

Paleolith is currently planned exclusively for PC, with no release date yet announced. The game is in its pre-alpha phase, and public testing is expected to begin as early as November.
