Dovetail Games’ latest title takes players to one of the busiest cities in the United States—or more precisely, beneath it. Metro Rivals: New York dives into a world where reputation is everything, strategy determines success, and speed reigns supreme. In a near-future version of New York City, the subway network is split into ten rival districts, each ruled by a Track Titan—larger-than-life celebrity conductors who dominate their lines, earn massive profits, and command huge online fanbases. These underground icons rule their steel kingdoms with pride. And you? You start with nothing but a dream and a worn-out train.
To climb the ranks, you’ll have to hustle hard—complete missions, earn cash, grow your follower count, and build enough respect to challenge each Titan for their turf. Outsmart them. Outrun them. Outshine them. Only then can you become the undisputed ruler of the underground. Metro Rivals: New York is a bold and innovative blend of competitive strategy, light simulation, and narrative-driven action that rewards skill, precision, and cunning. Play through a story-driven single-player campaign, or face off against up to four friends in fierce, on-track PvP battles. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, explore this unique, stylized take on New York City at your own pace. Customize your train fleet and express your personality through design and performance.
“Metro Rivals: New York marks an exciting new chapter in Dovetail Games’ portfolio, offering a pick-up-and-play experience full of adrenaline, speed, and style within the simcade genre. By combining our deep expertise in trains with our team’s creativity and the power of Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen, Nanite, and procedural generation technology, we’re confident that this game will deliver an incredibly immersive experience—both in single-player and in our first-ever multiplayer train experience. We’re also thrilled to announce our collaboration with Reactional Music, whose real-time interactive engine integrates seamlessly into the game, creating a cinematic audio experience even as the soundtrack shifts,” said Rob O’Farrell, co-CEO of Dovetail Games.
“Metro Rivals: New York is raw, fast, and bursting with energy. It captures the attitude of New York while blending it with the thrill of a competitive simcade racing experience—think Crazy Taxi meets Need for Speed: Underground. Early feedback from our new Playlab testing sessions has been fantastic, and we can’t wait for players to get their hands on it next year,” added Gemma Brown, Dovetail Games’ co-CEO.
Metro Rivals: New York isn’t just another train sim—it’s a high-speed underground competition where fame matters just as much as skill. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the visuals are richly detailed with realistic lighting and procedurally generated cityscapes. The integration of Reactional Music means the soundtrack reacts dynamically to gameplay—acceleration, collisions, and camera shifts all synchronize with the beat, creating a cinematic sense of rhythm and tension.
With this project, Dovetail Games clearly aims to move beyond traditional simulation. Metro Rivals: New York isn’t about realism—it’s about style, intensity, and showmanship. It’s as much about rivalry and reputation as it is about rails and routes.
Metro Rivals: New York will launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
