Archetype Entertainment does not deny that BioWare’s game was the inspiration, which is no coincidence.
The studio has released a new Q&A video revealing many new details about the game. Co-founder and CEO Chad Robertson and game director Chris King answered numerous questions from fans. Regarding inspiration, Robertson and King acknowledged Mass Effect’s deep narrative, branching choices, and continuity between sequels as influential, but they also mentioned Guerrilla’s Horizon series for its elemental combat interactions and Retro Studios’ Metroid Prime for its exploration, spatial puzzle-solving, and sense of isolation.
Travelers don’t have unlimited space for equipment on long journeys, so they need to carry versatile, multifunctional tools. For instance, the Recycler serves as both a rescue tool and a basic weapon. It uses collected materials as ammunition and can be converted for different purposes, allowing players to use it flexibly without managing a lot of resources.
Players can sneak, attack, or resolve conflicts through conversation. The game supports multiple playstyles, including teammates specializing in stealth and unique Aegis outfits. During combat, players must observe, plan, and execute, but they must also improvise as necessary. Human factions and Celestial Constructs, which are guardians of lost technology, appear early in the game. After acquiring a spaceship, the threats become increasingly complex and dangerous. For instance, the Rot emerges as a destructive force that threatens both technology and the environment. It is also the main antagonist of the story and affects both enemies and life on the planet.
Side quests are not meant to be filler content. They deepen relationships with companions, offer opportunities for skill development, and enhance the overall gaming experience. The protagonist, Jun Aslan, was designed to be relatable. They come from a humble background and are initially unaware of their full potential. The studio’s goal is for players to see themselves in Jun, whose story grows in significance as their role in humanity becomes clearer.
At the center of the story are the powerful and mysterious artifacts known as Ancient Remnants. Initially, Jun searches for the artifacts to save their home planet. However, as the story progresses, they must make difficult, morally complex decisions about their use. These moral decisions play a central role and are designed to be weighty and thought-provoking for players.
