Folklore Hunter: The Hunt for Urban Legends Won’t Be in Early Access for Much Longer! [VIDEO]

Liquid Monkey Games’ title has been in Early Access for a surprisingly long time, so its release was long overdue.

When a father goes missing while searching for his children under mysterious circumstances, when a village is cursed by creatures of the night, or when strange things are afoot at abandoned military biolabs, they call you. Dropped in uncharted lands with limited supplies and supernatural threats, your team has the skills to solve the unsolvable. Track and hunt three mythical creatures in the fully designed main campaign through a series of story hunts, which support single-player and multiplayer modes. Set up traps and cameras to capture the location of the horned Wendigo. Solve cryptic riddles and uncover hidden storylines that brought the vampiric Strigoi to an abandoned village. Find a way to communicate with the Mothman via electromagnetic radiation, but don’t linger. Whatever’s out there is tracking you, too.

Wander through wooded forests, dank caves, mysterious shrines, sealed catacombs, haunted churches, cult lairs, and abandoned military outposts on a hunt for the world’s most fabled creatures of the night. Discover clues in bloody notes, obscurely placed skeletons, and other oddities, combining wit and intuition to outsmart otherworldly dangers. Learn what brought each creature into this world, and find a way to contain it before it takes any more lives. Apply these lessons to shorter Contract Hunts to tackle randomized locations and puzzles. Earn rewards for surviving to unlock new gear, traps, and other helpful equipment to personalize your hunting techniques.

“There are many ways to hunt these supernatural beings. You can use shotguns, crossbows, exploding gas cans, or even runes inscribed with tools to help you survive. Pick your poison. But how will you use them? That’s a story for you to tell,” wrote Jayde Cohen, founder and sole developer of Liquid Donkey Games, in the press release.

Its sole developer. This explains why it took six years in Early Access; Steam Early Access received it on February 24, 2020. The game will be released on PC on January 30 and will also be available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch in 2026. A new update for the Early Access version is now available and has received full Steam Workshop support. This allows the community to create and share their own content and mods.
