The Classic RPG Comeback You’ll Hear About Sooner Than You Think – But Not Fully Finished

Riding the wave sparked by Baldur’s Gate 3, Tactical Adventures is doubling down on old-school role-playing: Solasta II is targeting early 2026, but it will debut in Early Access rather than as a complete 1.0 release.

Classic RPGs never truly vanished, though – as Josh Sawyer once noted – the early 2000s were a rough stretch. Since Baldur’s Gate 3 launched two years ago, enthusiasm for the genre has surged, and Solasta II aims to harness that momentum. Built on the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset, Tactical Adventures’ project is already playable in a limited form and now has a release window, with one caveat: it is arriving soon, but not in its final state.

According to the studio, Solasta II will be more ambitious and technically demanding than its predecessor. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, it offers free exploration across the continent of Neokos, party management for four adventurers, and turn-based combat that adheres closely to Dungeons & Dragons SRD 5.1. Despite these upgrades – and mirroring Baldur’s Gate 3 – it will launch in Early Access in early 2026 with the exact date still to be set. When version 1.0 lands, the game is also planned for consoles.

What Ships In Solasta II’s Early Access

Tactical Adventures has been upfront about the initial package to attract players. At launch, expect 10+ hours of gameplay, a starting level cap of 4, six classes (warrior, rogue, cleric, paladin, wizard, sorcerer), four ancestries (human, elf, dwarf, halfling), and support for multiclassing. The team also confirmed that Spanish localization will be available from day one of Early Access.

With Solasta II, the studio hopes to cement its standing in the genre. Following the success of Solasta: Crown of the Magister, the sequel targets both seasoned Dungeons & Dragons players and newcomers seeking a deep, replayable tactical experience. Early Access invites the community to actively shape development, potentially influencing the final product.

They have gone from crafting one of the best action RPGs to building a medieval strategy title that prefers challenge over handing out freebies.

All told, Solasta II is shaping up to be one of the most promising tactical RPG releases of the first quarter of 2026. There are still months to go, but this early window has already raised expectations for a game intent on pushing the genre higher.
