A free open-world RPG is launching tomorrow, yet there is already a player who has sunk almost 920 hours into it without managing to clear every last activity. Where Winds Meet arrives on November 14, but it debuted in China a year ago with such a ridiculous amount of content that it is both impressive and a little frightening.
By now, it should not surprise anyone that Chinese and South Korean RPGs often turn into full-blown phenomena once they reach Western audiences. Interest from major publishers like Sony and Xbox has grown so much that many projects originally intended for a limited regional market have ended up getting international releases with huge success. One of those titles, even without direct backing from the companies mentioned above, is Where Winds Meet, a free open-world adventure that launches in just 24 hours and has already hooked a player who has invested 919 hours without spending a single cent and still has not reached the end of the game.
As we noted, although Everstone Studio’s project will not arrive in Spain and, more broadly, outside China until November 14, it has been available in the Asian giant since last December, where it has amassed no fewer than 15 million players. Over that year full of updates and content drops, the user known as Rexlent has taken full advantage, pouring more than 900 hours into the game without finishing every activity on offer, and in doing so has given Western players a pretty clear picture of what awaits them when Where Winds Meet finally lands in their region.
According to a post the player shared on X, in those 900 plus hours he has fully explored all four available regions and completed most of the PvE content. Even so, he still has PvP activities and other quests left to tackle, many of which are gated by in-game timers that force him to wait several days before progressing.
Where Winds Meet Is A Hard-to-Define Open-World RPG
Despite being free to play, Where Winds Meet does not hold back when it comes to scope or systems. Beyond its campaign and main quests, which can be completed solo or in co op, its completely optional online component offers everything from lightweight distractions such as board games and simple delivery tasks to full dungeons and competitive battles against other players for better loot. This blend of modes, combined with the sheer volume of content packed into the core storyline, goes a long way toward explaining how players like Rexlent can rack up hundreds of hours and still have things left undone.
With the global release now just around the corner, players on PC, PS5 and mobile will finally be able to see for themselves how deep and varied Where Winds Meet really is. It is worth pointing out, however, that there is still no confirmed release date for Xbox Series consoles, since the title is launching first as a timed exclusive within the PlayStation ecosystem.
