Owlcat’s game attempts to replicate the style of Mass Effect as closely as possible, and it takes outer space seriously.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, Owlcat Games’ latest RPG, is the studio’s first attempt at creating a third-person action RPG. The game was first announced at Summer Game Fest, and a new developer diary was presented at the Golden Joystick Awards. The diary revealed how the studio plans to bring the world of The Expanse and space to life with the help of a former NASA astronaut. We already reported on the list of winners in today’s news in connection with the awards ceremony. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won in many categories!
Former NASA astronaut and ISS commander Leroy Chiao collaborated with Owlcat Games to provide realistic depictions of life and work in space and to solve problems that would make gameplay too difficult for players. For example, when working outside the ship, you must be tethered to it at all times.
Rather than having to constantly watch the long rope, magnetic boots provide a more seamless experience for players while still presenting the constant threat that every astronaut fears when working outside the ship, that the tether will break and they will float away. The new developer diary featured several gameplay clips from The Expanse: Osiris Reborn. Most of the clips were cinematic and only followed characters on the ship. There was a brief clip of third-person, cover-based shooting in space, which players will experience as well.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is currently available for wishlisting on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Microsoft Store. However, there is no specific release date yet for Owlcat’s game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC in 2026. All we can say is that we’re looking forward to it.
