This time, PUBG Studios and Krafton are not developing a battle royale game within the franchise; they have changed the formula slightly.
Designed as a first-person experience, PUBG: Black Budget is a tactical extraction shooter built around tension, survival, and the unknown. You are a Contractor, a seasoned veteran hired for a secret operation on a remote island. Your mission is to recover top-secret technology from an abandoned research facility. The island is trapped in a time loop and consumed by a supernatural phenomenon known as the Anomaly. Extract artifacts, research your findings, and uncover the truth behind the black-budget initiative, Sapiens. Between missions, expand your personal base, craft new equipment, and improve your character’s skills and proficiencies. Prepare to face PvPvE threats in an environment that becomes more unpredictable with each loop. The longer you stay, the harder it is to escape alive.
The game features a 2.5 km² open-world island with varied biomes, points of interest, and underground facilities; 30-minute sessions combining exploration, combat, and extraction; and a persistent inventory: Keep what you extract and lose what you bring if you die. There is level- and squad-based matchmaking for squads of up to three players and 45 players per session, as well as dynamic PvPvE encounters against other contractors and various hostile entities. The Anomaly gradually shrinks the playable area, creating tense and unpredictable scenarios with each loop. There is also difficulty scaling that increases with player level and time spent inside the loop.
The three rival factions offer contracts, missions, and rewards based on loyalty and reputation. There is persistent character growth through skills, proficiencies, and upgrade systems. There is also a customizable and expandable base featuring crafting stations, stash upgrades, and income-generating facilities. The research station serves as a narrative and progression hub. There is extensive weapon and gear customization, including faction-exclusive items. There are healing items and stimulants that enhance survivability and performance. Full character and equipment customization is available, including appearance and clothing options, as well as weapon and equipment skins.
Closed alpha testing will take place from December 12 to 14 and December 19 to 21 in North America, Europe, and Asia. Registration is available on Steam. PUBG: Black Budget is coming to PC, but the release date is not yet known.
