We already know one of the games joining PS Plus Extra in December 2025, and it is not an old catalog title but a fresh launch. Skate Story, the latest project from creator Sam Eng and publisher Devolver Digital, will roll straight into Sony’s subscription service on December 8, letting Extra-tier subscribers jump in at release without paying extra for the standalone game.
The PS Plus Extra and Premium catalog was refreshed a few days ago with nine new additions, including the ever-present Grand Theft Auto V. That lineup will grow again on December 2, when Red Dead Redemption arrives on PS5. This was already a pleasant surprise for the PlayStation community, but it turns out Sony still had another play waiting in the wings: the arrival of a brand new title as a day-one inclusion. That game is Skate Story, a stylish experience that mixes striking visuals, demons, skateboards, and a mission that sounds almost impossible on paper.
As detailed in a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Skate Story will be available in the PS Plus Extra library the same day it launches for the general public on December 8. At the time of writing, it is not yet clear whether this game, designed by Sam Eng and published by Devolver Digital, will also debut on other subscription platforms at launch. What we do know is that PS5 owners with the right PlayStation Plus tier will be able to access the title within days through Sony’s service.
A Trippy Skateboarding Quest Starring a Glass Demon
Skate Story has caught the eye at multiple events thanks to its distinctive art direction and the way it turns a simple skateboarding run into a kind of playable fever dream. Players take on the role of a demon made of crystal and pain, handed a skateboard by the Devil, and ordered to skate up to the sky and swallow the moon. If he pulls off this bizarre assignment, the ruler of the Underworld will finally grant him the freedom he has been chasing.
Along the way, the skater encounters hostile demons, possible allies, and tormented souls, all while sharpening his skills in the pure language of skateboarding: ollies, kickflips, grinds, and a full toolkit of tricks. To keep progressing, the protagonist can literally sell his soul to acquire new decks, wheels, and trucks to upgrade his board. This progression system sits on top of a trip through dazzling layers of the Underworld and is backed by a psychedelic soundtrack that flows with the player’s movements. Sam Eng’s game is set to launch on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and PS5, with PS Plus Extra members gaining access to the title from December 8.
