Treyarch and Activision Blizzard’s (Microsoft) game is a live-service title, so post-launch support is just as crucial here as at release.
Activision and Treyarch have revealed the roadmap for the first season of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which begins on December 4. It brings plenty of new content for players to dive into as the game launches and attempts to find its footing. According to Activision, this is the biggest first season yet, with more weapons and maps for both multiplayer and Zombies modes, plus much more. While the spotlight is clearly on the new additions to multiplayer and Zombies, there is also fresh content coming to the PvE Endgame mode if we are still looking for something to do after finishing the campaign. Four new Endgame events, eight new exotic abilities, and a new holiday-themed event are on the way.
On the multiplayer side, three brand-new maps will be available at the start of Season 1 (Fate, Utopia, Odysseus), joined by a revamped version of Standoff that kicks off the season. At mid-season, the new Yakei map will arrive alongside the remastered Meltdown. Finally, Fringe will be added to the rotation before the end of the season. Several modes are also coming, including long-time favorites such as Prop Hunt and Gun Game. One in the Chamber, Sharpshooter, and Sticks & Stones are all joining the first season as well, and toward the end of the year, there will be a limited-time, holiday-themed Takeover mode. Seven new weapons are also being added to the game, giving players even more gear to grind for.
Zombies players can look forward to a new Astra Malorum map and a continuation of the story, a new survival map called Exit 115, new traps, and returning upgrades and loot from earlier iterations of the Zombies experience.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launched a little over a week ago and, while it has topped the reported sales charts so far, it is still significantly behind this year’s other big shooter, Battlefield 6. Of course, it is far too early to write off Call of Duty, and if it can pick up the pace, it could still end 2025 as the best-selling game of the year.
In January, once the final sales results for 2025 are in, we will see how things truly played out.
